Whom I had been a customer for a few years. So I looked at other opportunities all across the US and stumbled upon an opportunity after graduation in Las Vegas with a company called. I still desperately wanted to move to NYC and continued to apply for internships but at the end of the day just couldn’t afford the relocation. It really was magical and proved that I had an eye for design and a passion for fashion! Which sounds so cheesy but true!Īfter graduation, I continued working in retail for Nordstrom and working with various designers in Chicago. After seeing my designs merchandised in the windows, customers stopping to take a look, then walk inside to ask about the product, try it on and then purchase was and still is one of my most favorite memories as a designer. After working there for a few months, the owner, Michael Blossom gave me the opportunity to sell some of my designs which of course I immediately jumped at. I learned a lot about retail, merchandising and customer service that truly shaped me as a designer and future businesswoman. My favorite work experience while in school was at a beautiful boutique called FLORODORA in the South Loop.

And even got the chance to intern on a TV show with Patrick Swayze right before he passed away. I juggled a job, classes, internships all the while launching my business - I was the queen of all nighters! While in school, I had the opportunity to intern for some amazing local designers like Michelle Tan and Kate Boggiano. After touring Columbia College Chicago a year into my Business Degree I packed my bags and moved back to the city to pursue a BFA in Art & Design with a focus in Fashion Design. Although, it was not my first choice I was grateful for the experience and really did learn a lot about business while I was there. So much to my parents happiness I enrolled in a Business program at Illinois State University that was only a couple of hours away from my parents. I was obsessed with creating collages and even started a fashion magazine with a few friends in middle school.Īlthough I dreamed of going to NYC for Design school I just couldn’t afford it. I created fashion shows in my friends garages, costumes for live action games and would check out countless books and magazines from the library for “research.” I even started working at 13 as an umpire for softball games to secure enough money to start paying for magazine subscriptions to fuel my inspiration. From there, I did whatever I could to learn about art, design, fashion, and fabric. I must have been 9 or 10 and I just remember being obsessed with it. I think the “AHA” moment for me was when I started playing the game Barbie Fashion Designer. From dresses for my dolls or my twin sister to curtains, rugs and wallpaper for the interior of a doll house. I was always creating something as a child. So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Dickey.
